Power supply
About the Power Supply
Hokkaido’s total power generation capacity is over 5,000,000kW (5GW or 5,000MW) during normal times
The power transmission grid of Hokkaido Electric Power Network is made up of 275kV transmission lines arranged in a large ring. Called the Do-o Main Line, it encircles the Sapporo area, connecting the main power plants within it.
Asahikawa, Obihiro, Kushiro, and Hakodate are connected by either 275kV or 187kV transmission lines. Hakodate is directly connected to the mainland by direct current power transmission via the Hokkaido-Honshu Link (600,000kW or 600MW) and New Hokkaido-Honshu Link (300,000kW or 300MW).
The Hokkaido Electric Power Network Group and other power generation companies have a total power generation capacity of over 5,000,000kW (5GW or 5,000MW) during normal times, up to just under 20% of which can be supplied to the mainland.
In cases where the power supply within Hokkaido becomes tight, electricity can be supplied from the mainland.
