As data centers increasingly function as social infrastructure, the development of communications infrastructure that connects data centers with each other and with users is also crucial.Hokkaido possesses a geographical advantage that enables the shortest possible connections to North America and Europe, and is advancing the development of the “Hokkaido Data Center Campus Network,” which leverages fiber-optic resources across the region.

Based on these power transmission and communications infrastructures, Hokkaido is promoting initiatives such as “watt–bit integration” and GX × AI, with the aim of expanding the use of AI and addressing regional and societal challenges through AI. Ultimately, Hokkaido seeks to establish itself as a data center hub for Asia.
